Franklin Mint - Perhaps one of the most famous manufacturers, the Franklin Mint produced many collector plates by various artists.Complete sets of 12 plates in their original boxes can go for around $200 on eBay, but individual plates sell for as little as one dollar.

Bradford Exchange - An iconic name in collector plates, the Bradford Exchange made many series over the years. Antique Cupboard offers a 1908 Christmas plate, "Madonna & Child," for over $3,700, while many modern examples sell for $50 to $80. Royal Copenhagen Madonna and Child Royal Copenhagen - Particularly noted for their annual Christmas plates, Royal Copenhagen is another major manufacturer with dramatic variation in value. However, examples from the 1970s sell for about two dollars on eBay. Royal Doulton - According to, a Royal Doulton collector plate from 1927 with a beautiful image of two fish had a 2009 auction estimate of 150 to 200 British pounds (about $220 to $300). A set of 13 Wedgewood collector plates featuring flowers sells for about $150 on eBay while a single example might fetch as little as two dollars. Wedgwood Collector Plate Wedgewood - The beautiful iconic blue color of many Wedgewood plates makes them lovely and decorative, but the plates don't necessarily hold value as collectibles. Other old, well-preserved plates from this manufacturer regularly fetch over $100 at auction, but many lovely examples from the 1970s sell for as little as two dollars each. Bing & Grondahl - Bing & Grondahl produced the first collectible plate, known as "Behind the Frozen Window" in 1895, and a first edition of that plate sells for more than $2,500 on eBay. reports that some of noted manufacturers include the following: Many companies have produced collector plates over the years, but there are a few that are famous for their plates. Note there can be some variation in how dealers define terminology, but those above are fairly consistent from dealer to dealer. Generally, this type of damage will negatively affect the value. Fair condition - If a plate is in fair condition, it may have cracks, chips, or crazing. It may have some discoloration, minor signs of use, and some loss of gold sponging. Good condition - A plate in good condition may not have its original box. The plate itself will show no discoloration, cracking, staining, or other damage. Excellent condition - This plate may come with its box, but the box may be worn. 
This is rare, but plates in mint condition are most valuable. The plate and box will both be perfect, showing no signs of use or wear.

According to Passion for the Past Antiques and Collectibles, you can grade vintage and antique china by examining it carefully: A series of nine plates from the popular Mother’s Day series dated 2000-2008 sold for $70.Condition is another important factor to consider when assessing the value of a plate. I also sold a series of five Christmas plates from the 1930s for $140 and five Christmas plates from the 1950s for $70. Major Manufacturers Are Worth Moreīing & Grondahl – Plates from the 1800s to 1920s can sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars as noted above. Most collector plates from major manufacturers feature very detailed back stamps and usually include the year the plate was made. According to Terry Kovel, plates made after 1980 usually have no monetary value. This plate held it’s value because it was the first plate in Bing & Grondahl’s series of Christmas plates. I listed it and it sold for $2,500 (pictured). 
I started researching a collection of plates a client gave me to sell and noticed that a Bing & Grondahl plate dated 1895 titled ‘Behind the Frozen Window’ was selling on eBay for thousands of dollars.
